Materials
iPads for each student
Projector to present Prezi

Anticipatory Set
Students will be introduced to synonyms with a Prezi presentation that I have created.  Students will then apply information learned during presentation to play interactive games.  The games will reinforce the concept of synonyms and build vocabulary.  Students will take home a work sheet that will be assessed for understanding of the lesson.  Students will blog answers in Blogger.

Procedures
1.    Tell students they are going to be learning about synonyms
2.    Explain that synonyms help expand vocabulary and show have two words can have similar meanings
3.    Present Synonym Prezi that outlines the main points of what synonyms are with examples
4.    After presentation, ask students to give a synonym for the following words: center and quick
5.    Hand out iPads to students and have them log in
6.    Verbally give directions along with the last slide of the Prezi that indicates which website students need to visit
7.    Have students open website that provides a Synonym Game to reinforce lesson plan
8.    Have students open the thesaurus and dictionary to reference if they come across a word they don’t know
9.    Have students play for 15 minutes while walking around the room helping with questions
10.After playing ask a few students some synonym combinations they came across during the game (i.e. I realized that near and close are synonyms for each other)
11.Ask students if they had to research any words from the game with the thesaurus or dictionary
12.Inform students you have sent them a worksheet via Google Docs as a take home assessment
13. Students will need to blog the answers in Blogger

Closure
Students will reflect on synonyms by completing a take-home worksheet to reinforce the concept.  Worksheet sentences will need to be rewritten in students’ Blogger blog.

Assessment
Assessment will be based on students’ attention and interaction during the lesson.  Students will also be assessed on the worksheet and blogging answers.

Modifications/Accommodations
The online interactive game has two levels for easy modification.
For students who have difficulty with vocabulary I will provide them with a different worksheet.
